Nokia Lumia 800 review
18.05.12
If you've ever seen the N9 in the flesh, you will know it's a sturdy, beautifully crafted handset. The Lumia 800 has effectively borrowed the design, which means you get the same great black, pink or blue rubbery plastic that's very comfortable to hold and excellent build quality.
The Lumia's quality approach extends to the sturdy but sensitive hardware buttons, including one dedicated button for the camera. At the top are two slide-operated compartments: one for the microSIM card and the other for for access to the microUSB port for charging and connecting to your PC.
Make no mistake, the Lumia 800 feels great to hold, largely because it's a great design and weighs 140-odd grams. It feels like the first Windows Phone smartphone we could compare with the iPhone, because the minimalist design and thoughtful layout is clearly the work of a company that looks at the smallest of details, much like Apple.
The only gripe in this department is that the camera's central location can be easy to obscure with a digit when shooting in portrait, but it's a quirk you soon learn to avoid.
