Unlocked iPhone 4S On Sale – iPhone 5 Release Date Remains Elusive
21.05.12
Apple have recently started to sell an unlocked version of the iPhone 4S online, which will allow buyers to purchase the device without having to sign up to the usual two-year service agreement which is a requirement when purchasing in-store with major US service providers.
Instead, the unlocked iPhone 4S will enable users to choose their own provider and level of service, activating the device by inserting the micro-SIM.
Of course, this is seen as incredibly liberating by all those wishing not to be tied in to a 24-month contract, but is also nothing less than a Godsend for users needing to transfer between multiple service providers when travelling from country to country. Rather than paying extortionate roaming charges for calls and data, unlocked iPhone 4S users will be able to utilize local providers in any and all areas they visit.
However, it should be noted that the unlocked iPhone 4S will only support GSM networks, which would suggest that it will in fact be incompatible with the CDMA networks of Verizon and Sprint.
